How To Make A Natural Earth Body Scrub And Massage Yourself In The Bath

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brown sugar or sea salt: Both are excellent exfoliants, with brown sugar being gentler and sea salt offering a more robust exfoliation.
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil or olive oil: Acts as a moisturizing base, binding the scrub together and nourishing your skin.
  • 1 tablespoon honey: A natural humectant that attracts moisture to your skin, also offering antibacterial benefits.
  • 1 teaspoon ground coffee (optional): Provides additional exfoliation and helps improve circulation.
  • 5-10 drops essential oil (optional): Adds a pleasant scent and therapeutic properties. Choose oils like lavender, peppermint, or tea tree based on your preference.

Instructions:

  1. Combine the Base Ingredients:

    • Mix the Sugar/Salt and Oil: In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of brown sugar or sea salt with 1/2 cup of coconut oil or olive oil. Stir until the sugar or salt is well-coated with the oil.
  2. Incorporate Honey:

    • Add Moisture: Stir in 1 tablespoon of honey. This will help to hydrate and smooth your skin while adding a touch of natural sweetness.
  3. Optional Additions:

    • Add Coffee Grounds: If you want an extra exfoliating boost, mix in 1 teaspoon of ground coffee. This ingredient also has energizing properties.
    • Essential Oils: Add 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil. Essential oils not only enhance the scent but also provide various skin benefits. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
  4. Mix Until Smooth:

    • Blend Well: Stir the mixture thoroughly until it reaches a uniform, gritty consistency. Adjust the texture if necessary by adding more oil if it’s too dry or more sugar/salt if it’s too wet.
  5. Store Properly:

    • Transfer to Container: Spoon your scrub into a clean, airtight container. A glass jar or plastic tub works best. Store it in a cool, dry place to maintain freshness.

How to Use:

  • Apply in the Shower: Use the scrub on damp skin, applying it in gentle, circular motions. Focus on rough areas like elbows, knees, and feet. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water to reveal smooth, refreshed skin.

Extra Tips

  • Customize Your Scrub: Experiment with different herbs, essential oils, or exfoliants to find your perfect blend.
  • Patch Test: Always perform a patch test before using new ingredients to ensure you don’t have any allergic reactions.
  • Shelf Life: Homemade scrubs generally last for about 1-2 months. Keep them in an airtight container to prevent moisture from spoiling the mixture.
